You know what they say if you want to  know a good place to eat ask a local. I asked this street vendor who sold us our souvenirs he made a point to steer us away from the touristy areas so we walked a few blocks and found Vecchio Borgo.

I wasn't impressed at first because they didn't have pizza like I know it . It was like a pizza panini I reluctantly ordered one. I didn't think I was going to like it but I ended up loving it ! This is the type of food I miss most about Italy. The cheese was nice... gooey and the sauce had the balance of sweet and savory. A pizza and a drink was like 5 Euro. It's a great snack if you are close to the Vatican walk a little out of your way and save your money. They also have free  wifi just ask for the login and password.

Cheap and close to the Vatican. Mediocre food. We got the $5 meal.   Good for the price. Probably won't be back..... we had way better pizza elsewhere. We got good service. The place was clean. Liked the free WiFi.

Very delicious food!!! Definitely recommend. The Hazelnut Gelato is my favorite! Will eat here again the next time I'm in Rome!

As long as you order something from inside the glass case that you can see, it's fine.  Some of the complaints about the microwaved pasta...well all I can say is it's an Italian bar-- you get sandwiches and drinks and pizza in a bar...not pasta.

The specials with a sandwich and a drink were quite reasonable, particularly since it's just a block off of the main drag where everyone seems to be walking on the way to Vatican museum.  Going a block out of your way pays off.

By the way, the sandwich + coke special is actually a fountain coke-- with ice!! (not, a lot, but it's still ice)

We had an assortment of the sandwiches and the folded pizza + coke specials.  It was nice to be able to sit in the air conditioning since it was over 90 in Rome that day.  They don't charge extra to sit at a table and eat.

Their gelato counter didn't look like it had much turnover-- ice crystals on the gelato, we passed on that.  Their cappucinos were good, though.

If you want a quick bite before you brave the queue at the Vatican Museum, check this place out.

Stopped here for a quick snack. Ordered a calzone, which tasted fine. The owner (Italian lady) was extremely mean and rude after she screwed up the order. She literally snatched the food back and told us to leave until one of her workers calmed her down. Unprofessional to say the least. Plenty of better places nearby.
